The Pac-12 regular season comes to a close this weekend and Oregon State will need a series sweep over the Arizona Wildcats in a Top-15 matchup to take the Pac-12 title for the first time under Mitch Canham. OSU currently appears to be in good shape to host a regional, but a series loss to the Wildcats could put a damper on those plans.
After a slow offensive start on Friday OSU exploded in the third inning with two outs as OSU put up five runs. Gavin Turley and Brady Kasper both launched two-run homers before Jabin Trosky capped the inning with an RBI single. Trosky would come through again with an RBI single in the fifth to give OSU a 6-1 lead that Elijah Hainline would add onto with a double. Turley would later seal the deal in the seventh with a two RBI single and OSU would take game one from Arizona 9-2. Aiden May was dominant on the mound for the Beavers as he went seven innings against his former team holding Arizona to six hits and two runs while striking out seven. Joey Mundt would close the door in the eighth and ninth thanks to a pair of strikeouts. Oregon State had 14 hits against the Wildcats including seven that went for extra bases. Six Beavs had a multi-hit effort as Travis Bazzana and Dallas Macias joined Hainline, Turley, Kasper and Trosky. OSU needs to win the final two games of the series to clinch the Pac-12 Championship.
The Beavers hammered the Wildcats in game two of the series, jumping out to a early 2-0 lead that the Beavers would not relinquish thanks to a pair of errors. OSU would add two more in the second with RBI's from Travis Bazzana and Micah McDowell. The top of the fifth provided two more runs for the Beavers as Wilson Weber had an RBI single and Easton Talt got one across on a sac bunt. OSU would put up 10 more runs in the ballgame and would keep Arizona in check thanks to a strong six inning outing from Jacob Kmatz and good bullpen work from Ian Lawson, Kellan Oakes and AJ Hutcheson. Five Beavers had a multi-hit effort as Brady Kasper and Mason Guerra each had three, while Bazzana, Talt and Jabin Trosky each had two. Talt had a career-high 3 RBI to lead the Beavers on the night. Saturday's matchup will determine the Pac-12 regular season Championship, as the winner of the ballgame will take the crown.
