247Sports Team Rankings Explanation

Each recruit is weighted in the rankings according to a GAUSSIAN DISTRIBUTION FORMULA (a bell curve), where a team's best recruit is worth the most points.

247Sports Composite

The Composite combines recruitment ratings from 247Sports' in-house ratings, Rivals.com, and ESPN in order to provide an overall rating for each recruit. The resulting rankings can be considered an industry consensus on the top recruits in the nation.

With that said, many view that the most useful and informative are the composite rankings that 247 sports put out. A five-star prospect is deemed to be amongst the top 30 players nationally, ones that are expected to immediately contribute as freshmen regardless of where they sign.

The composite score is usually created by adding all of the ratings together (i.e., the sum) or by taking the average (mean) of the ratings.

Each recruit is given a composite rating (more commonly known as star rating) based on evaluations from 247, Rivals, and ESPN. As you probably know, players are given anywhere from a 2-star rating up to a 5-star rating. Following the evaluation, all recruits are grouped by the university to which they are committed.

Clemson, Florida, Texas, Oregon and Auburn signed a pair each, giving all of those schools top 20 hauls. Final rankings for the 2024 class came this month. The 32 five-stars represent represent those with the best shot to be first-round picks, mirroring Day 1 of the NFL Draft.

Star ratings

Most services use 5 stars for the highest ranked recruits and only a few players at each position attain this rank. 4 stars is a typical ranking for most recruits at schools which regularly finish as one of the top ranked teams in a particular sport.

Five-star recruits are the most elite prospects, with exceptional athleticism and talent, while four-star recruits are highly regarded and expected to be major contributors. Three-star recruits are solid players who can still contribute to a college program.

The resulting rankings can be considered an industry consensus on the top recruits in the nation. The Composite does not include any athletes that do not yet have a recruiting profile on 247Sports in order to prevent spoofs from other sites.

Three-Star Rankings

Three star recruits are often ranked very high in their state or region and can often develop into starters for a D-1 team. They are also more likely to play professionally once their college career is over.

Four-star prospects are also very talented players and in the top fraction of a percent of high school players nationwide. There will be a few hundred in this category, and these players are expected to have a significant impact on whichever college team he or she heads to.

Ranked Play is available to all players who reach Rank 55. Winning matches is the key to the Rank system, offering more rewards and ranking opportunities for victories. In addition, the Rank system includes Skill Rating (SR), SR Forgiveness, Demotion Protection, and other Competitive Integrity Features.

FOOTBALL STAR RATINGS

The only way to earn a National Radar Star is by attending a Recruit Nation Showcase and being evaluated by the Dream All-American Committee, National Radar Scouts and the College Coaches in attendance.

The Rankings are based on the Ranking Scores. Athletes are ranked in the Event and Overall Rankings by their Ranking Scores. The Ranking Score is the average of Performance Scores. In order to be ranked, athletes must collect a sufficient number of Performance Scores and some of them must come from Main Events.

Ranked is a competitive mode that lets you play with other players at a similar rank. You need to be Level 20 or higher to access it. Over time, you can rank up and play in higher tiers. Your rank will reset at the start of, and around halfway through, each Season.
